TO BREATHE A FOREST by @siomcdonald is a large wall mounted artwork on delicate Japanese paper. The 6 artworks, composed of painting, drawing and Chine Collé are produced using various techniques incorporating frottage, as well as the pouring, blending, etching and scraping away of paint. At times the trees are almost formless through their muted silhouettes and minimal details. Materials: Peat, moss, sediment, charcoal, roots and mixed media on delicate layers of Japanese paper.
Siobhan McDonald, Irish visual artist was invited as artist-in-residence for Climate Whirl arts program in 2020. The international open call received 168 applications by 18th November 2019 and the jury chose Siobhan for the 2020 residency. Later, her residency was postponed because of the worldwide pandemic and finally took place in spring 2022 at Hyytiälä Forest Station.
