MING TANG I. MING TANG II, Oil on canvas, 213 cm square
Threshold is a series of new works commissioned by Infection Research Ireland marking a new chapter in infectious diseases research. This was launched at UCD School of Medicine.
Threshold adopts a portrait orientation and an earth motif. Vivid hues spread and blend unpredictably as inks are poured in multiple layers onto the surface, dispersing through the paper. At the centre, a circle bleeds organically outward, forming an irregular stain or blot.
Presented as two halves of a possibility, the work becomes a beacon of hope, a space of transition, potential and infinite possibility. The two sides suggest a dynamic balance and interdependence: each exists in relation to, and cannot exist without, the other. Humongous thank you to University College Dublin and UCD School of Medicine.
Siobhán McDonald is an Irish visual artist whose research-driven practice explores the intersections of art, science and the natural world. Her work has been exhibited internationally and developed through collaborations with scientific and research institutions in Ireland and abroad.
